Fall Climb up the CN Tower
By: Lucy Trinh, Creative Director Every year the thousands of people gather around the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to prepare to partake in Climb up the CN Tower. The event is hosted bi-annually with a Spring and Autumn event raising money for the United Way and World Wildlife Federation. This year’s fall climb for the United Way began on October 20th, 2011 with 4 separate climbs, and the last one ending October 23rd. It had over 11,000 participants and with a record total raised close to 2.3 M to date. Mercatus Technologies participated for the first time this year and entered two teams to the event. Team Mercatus Blue, with Captain Michelle Agosta leading the public climb on Saturday, and Team Mercatus Teal, with Captain Nelson Bodnardchuck leading the Corporate Climb on Sunday. The two teams were given an internal challenge to compete and raise the most amount of money for the United Way. The winning team would be awarded with a half day off work to enjoy a movie of their choice. Half an hour of sweating for a half day of fun, I’d say that’s incentive enough don’t you think? The climb was chance for us to all get together outside of the office and a great way to get some exercise all for a good cause. Both teams trained hard for this event climbing up and down the steps in our building (some much harder than others) and 1,776 steps later, we collectively raised just over $2,000 for the United Way. Team Mercatus’s best female time was Sachi Kittur with a time of 25:18 and best male time was Alan Lok with a time of 18:15. Congratulations to everyone for completing the climb! Way to go! The event is over, but you can still help support an individual or team by donating using the following links. For those of you who did sponsored our team members, we thank you and look forward to next years’ climb! |
